About Vitality Women’s World Cup

With its inception in 1974, the Women’s Hockey World Cup is one of the premier sporting events, whose format is similar to the men’s tournament. It is held every 4 years, in the same year as the men’s World Cup. In a total of 13 events held thus far, only 4 teams have won the competition, with Netherlands topping the list with 7 titles. Australia, Germany and Argentina have won two times each. Only Australia and Netherlands have been able to retain their titles in the past.

What Does The Schedule Look Like?

As the leading hockey teams in the world gear up for action, the schedule has some amazing matchups to look forward to.

  • Pool A will witness an intense battle between the defending champion and the World No. 1, Netherlands, as they face the rising European star, Italy, and the Asian giants Korea and China.
  • Pool B comprises of the world No. 2, England and the host nation. They will be facing the heat against India and Ireland, along with USA, who won the semi-finals at the recently concluded 2017 Hockey World League in Johannesburg.
  • Pool C includes the European rivals Spain and Germany, along with South Africa and World No. 3, Argentina.
  • The runners up of Rabobank EuroHockey Championship 2017, Belgium will compete against the likes of Japan, New Zealand and Australia.

We have some great sporting action coming up in the pool stages, with edge of the seat thrillers. Watch out for the big rivalry between England and USA, who are known for their similar, structured style of playing. And then goes the fierce contest between Korea and China, with only one ranking point separating these teams. Witness an intriguing spectacle between Spain’s Flair and South Africa’s physicality, while also keeping an eye on the Oceania giants, Australia and New Zealand. Above all, Netherlands will once again look to retain their title for the 8th time.
