Summer arrives in London soon, and this means a bunch of fun events will be held. There is something for everyone, from food to music festivals and royal birthday celebrations. This cosmopolitan city offers world class events which will truly allow you to enjoy its metropolitan atmosphere, and the best way to get around during your stay is to book coach hire in London.
Field Day
This event will be held in Brockwell Park from June 1st to June 2nd. During the past ten years Field Day has emerged as a major UK music festival, due to the regular appearance of outstanding alternative acts. 2018 marks a significant shift however, as for the very first time it will be held at Brockwell rather than Victoria Park. Musicians who are scheduled to appear include Princess Nokia, Erykah Badu, Moses Sumney and Daniel Avery.
Open Garden Square
This event is planned at multiple locations throughout London from Saturday, June 9th to Sunday June 10th. It is an opportunity to discover the city’s many secret and private gardens. London is home to many, and over 200 will open their doors for the entire weekend in an event that is held in conjunction with National Trust. These gardens cover more than 20 boroughs and range from roof terraces to standard squares.
London Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival
This event will be hosted at the London Regatta Centre. Participants will get to view and cheer on as dragon boats compete against one another in a race in the River Thames in a Chinese cultural celebration. Attendees can also view demonstrations of martial arts, along with live music, Asian cuisine and classical lion dancing.
The Queen’s Birthday Celebration Parade
This celebration will be held near Buckingham Palace, at St. James Park on the 9th of June. It will consist of an elegant pageantry and performance by the House Guards and cavalry. It is a tradition which has been upheld since the 18th century. Initially conceived of as a way of training soldiers to remember their battlefield standards, it has morphed into an opportunity to watch some exceptional marching manoeuvres, as well as seeing royal family members, including the Queen.
Junction 2
Anyone who is a fan of electronic music festivals has heard of Junction. Junction 2 is scheduled to be held at Boston Manor Park in Brentford on Saturday the 9th of June. It is a one day festival which will feature pule pounding techno and rave music, and is one of the year’s most highly anticipated musical events due to the success of the previous outing. Musicians who are expected to perform this year include Carl Cox, Tale of Us, Nina Kraviz and Joy Orbison.
Taste of London
No culinary connoisseur will want to miss this one! It will be held at Regent’s Park from June 13th to June 17th, and will feature one of the largest collections of food that you will find anywhere in the United Kingdom. Attendees will be able to sample dishes from more than 40 new eateries as well as classical London restaurants. Highly esteemed chefs are also expected to make their appearance, including Pip Lacey, Will Bowlby and Surender Mohan. Cooking classes will also be held, and every day the event will be divided into sessions for dinner and lunch. Those who purchase VIP tickets will receive some champagne, along with VIP lounge access.
All Points East
This music festival will be hosted at Victoria Park between May 25th and June 3rd and has caused great excitement due to the planned appearance of the legendary singer Bjork, as well as other musical acts. This event will feature concerts, live music, and all sorts of entertainment, much of which will be community driven. All Points East is a truly epic event, and while four days provide entry free of charge, the remaining days require purchased tickets. Just a few of the musicians to perform this year include Glass Animals, George Fitzgerald, Nick Cave and the Bad Sees, Flying Lotus, Bjork and Richie Hawtin.
