Sundance Film Festival: London
Four days of indie film festival will surface at the Picturehouse Central, starting 1st of June, featuring 4 days of original screenings. The tradition that was started by Robert Redford in 1987 will display movies screened at a film festival. The festival will bring together a chain of national and international premieres, celebrating independent filmmakers. Last year’s program included the likes of Tallulah by Sian Heder and Wiener Dog from well-known director Todd Solondz. Line up for this year is yet to be announced, but it is expected to be bigger this time around!
Field Day 2017
The 3rd of June will witness the electro musician making the headlines in the Field Day Festival, playing the best of electronic and IDM tunes. The incredibly large line-up includes ABRA with her R&B tinged vocals, Julia Jacklin, the storyteller Aine Cahill and few other artists. Apart from live musical entertainment, there will be DJ sessions from BBC 6 Music DJ Marc ‘Lard’ Riley, Dutch Collective Dekmantel Soundsystem and Jon Hopkins. Happening every year at the Victoria Park, the Field Day is ideal for bold dance acts, melancholic folk and subdued electro!
Royal Academy Summer Exhibition
Scheduled to start on the 13th of June, this largest contemporary art exhibition is taking place at the Royal Academy of Arts in Burlington House, with over 12000 pieces on display. These have been collected from unknown artists to famous entities of the academy. The best part about this event is the fact that you can buy a few pieces, as majority of them are put on sale. A convention that started way back in 1769 offers an impressive show, with an excellent cross-section of modern art every summer.
Taste of London
This wonderful al fresco festival spread across a span of 5 days from 14th to 18th of June will be all about food, drinks and entertainment. Sargent: The Watercolours
The first ever major exhibition of watercolours by John Sargent will commence in UK on the 21st of June, with the Dulwich Picture Gallery hosting the show. The event will bring together nearly 80 artworks from what is undeniably the greatest era of watercolour production between 1900 and 1918. Sargent was known as a portraitist of his generation, and he has mastered this concept, while on expeditions to Middle East and Southern Europe. Exhibition will display 80 of his figurative scenes, architectural structures and landscapes from exclusive collections.
Spirit of Summer Fair
Happening at the Olympia Exhibition Centre, the Spirit of Summer Fair is the first ever House And Garden festival combining triple events under one roof. You can browse through 350 stalls for some summer shopping, as most of the exhibitors offer unique goods and special finds, you won’t get anywhere else. Add to that, there will be workshops on things like flower arranging and picnic planning. And being a summer fair, there is the much welcomed Champagne Bar along with Mosimann’s pop up restaurant, serving a luscious array of seasonal staff.
Barclaycard presents British Summer Time Hyde Park
Returning back for the 5th time, the British Summer Time Hyde Park will kick off on the 30th June with an impressive line-up. Some of the big names include the likes of Green Day, Kings of Leon and Phil Collins, with more acts to be announced. Amid a couple of weekends of live entertainment in Hyde Park, there will also be daytime DJs, street food stalls, tennis screenings and open-air movie nights. School multi-sports and free sport sessions are also a part of this week-long event.
